Makela Powers Way to Open Title

Posted on January 14, 2020January 14, 2020 By admin

The 2020 Manitoba Open took place at Chateau Lanes in Winnipeg Manitoba this past weekend. The predictably cold weather welcomed 46 bowlers looking to take home the 39th Open title.

Saturdays qualifying round was held on Kegel’s Tower of Pisa pattern. This pattern featured 41′ of oil and a volume of 24.98 mls. The asymmetric pattern provided a unique breakdown for the 10 game block, but the conditions proved playable for bowlers on both sides of the lane.

The qualifying round was lead by 6-time Open champion, Michael Schmidt. Schmidt fired a 2217 to take home the top qualifier prize. Rounding out the top 16 was defending champion, Eric Parvey, who shot 2039.

Saturday was also highlighted by a 300 game shot by Reid Newbiggin. Newbiggin claimed the 300 game pot that had not been won for a few years and had inflated to a cool $1200. Nice bowling, Reid!
