As Fall in North Dakota grows colder and colder, the bowling season starts heating up. Following the NDBowling.com Kickoff Classic two weeks ago, bowlers returned to Jamestown for the NDBPA State Scratch Doubles Tournament. Last season, Wade Scott and Ryan Selk edged out Eric Kempel and Travis Hersrud for the title in Dickinson. The duo returned this season to try to defend their title. Little did they know that the tournament would be all but decided by the end of the first day.
30 doubles teams made their way to Buffalo Lanes in Jamestown, ND for the NDBPA State Scratch Doubles Tournament. On Saturday, each doubles team would bowl 18 baker games. On Sunday, each bowler would bowl 9 games and high combined Saturday and Sunday pin total would win the tournament. Saturdays action started slowly as the fresh tournament condition challenged bowlers to sift through ball reactions to put up a respectable score in the baker format. As the day went on, the pattern would play softer depending on what end of the bowling center you were on. No team took advantage of that more than the combo of Mike Harris and Clayton Mohr. Through 12 baker games, Harris/Mohr held a 60 pin lead on the field. The duo would proceed to shoot 1563 (260.5 Average) the next 6 games to increase their day one lead to over 300 pins.
With a sizable lead, Harris/Mohr showed up Sunday for what would eventually be a victory lap in the doubles portion of the event. With each bowler bowling 9 games on Sunday, the Scratch Singles option was open to all bowlers to try to claim the seasons Scratch Singles title. Only two bowlers were able to score over 2000. Clayton Mohr edged out Bob Vander Vorst 2045 to 2018 to claim the singles portion of the event. Complete Singles and Doubles results are listed at the bottom of the page.
I would like to thank Casey Dodgson and his staff at Buffalo Lanes for hosting this event and creating another well run tournament for the bowlers. Congratulations to Mike Harris and Clayton Mohr on their State Doubles Title, and to Clayton on his Singles victory as well.
