The action started Saturday with an 8 game qualifying block on a custom 43 foot pattern. With a majority of the oil in the first 10 feet of the lane, players were tasked with navigating the inconsistencies in the midlane as they moved from pair to pair. Leading the way in qualifying was Brandon Kreyer. Kreyer posted a 1861 block (232.63 ave) and was the only lefty inside the top 10. The cut to the top 30 was Trysten Climer at 1633 (204.13).

On Saturday evening, bowlers gathered in the lounge to receive side pot payouts. The top 30 were announced and NDBowling.com gave away a Storm ball of choice to a random non-casher.
The top 30 returned bright and early Sunday morning for the match play round. Bowlers were divided into 3 groups of 10 for round robin matches. The winner of each match receiving 30 bonus pins.
Mitch Hupe posted a 8-2 record to lead the match play round. Hupe finished with a 2566 total for the 10 games (bonus pins included) to claim the number 1 overall seed on the KFYR TV finals. The position round provided a bit of excitement with Thomas Wolf and Doug Wagner Jr. recording games of 240+ to jump into the final 5 alongside Hupe, Lucas Hersrud, & Brandon Kreyer.

KFYR TV Finals Results:
Kreyer def. Wagner Jr., 215-192
Kreyer def. Wolf, 278-235
Hersrud def. Kreyer, 232-223
Hersrud def. Hupe, 230-210
The early matches were dominated by Kreyer. Kreyer never missed the pocket until the 3rd match when his look started to fade. Hersrud took advantage with an early string of strikes and defeated Kreyer to reach the championship match. In the title match, knowledge of the championship pair paid dividends for Hersrud. As Hupe searched for a consistent look, the St. Ambrose product kept striking and ultimately took home the title.

Hersrud used a steady performance on the live TV finals to earn his first NDBowling.com Major Title. The win joins him with his father, Travis, as a KFYR TV Bowling Classic Champion. Travis won the 18th annual tournament back in 2004. They become the second father/son combo to have each won a KFYR title joining Duane and Ryan Sandvick.
Thank you to Bryan Goehring and the entire staff at Midway Lanes for hosting the event. This tournament has been a North Dakota bowling tradition for 40 years and we all appreciate the hard work that goes into running this event each season.
Congratulations to Lucas Hersrud, winner of the 40th annual KFYR-TV Bowling Classic.
