Matt Smallin captured the NDBowling.com Tour Player of the Year award by a rather decisive margin. The 27 year old right-hander got a quick start on the competition following his victory at the NDBowling.com Kickoff Classic last October. He followed that up with a top 5 showing at the State Doubles tournament (Singles Option) and a victory at the 8 game singles tournament in Carrington. It became a runaway in January & February after Smallin earned 82.87 points in back to back top 15 finishes in both the Manitoba Open and the CMA Memorial Shootout and 60 points for his victory at the KFYR TV Bowling Classic.
The State Open Tournament points were awarded based on a tournament with 100 entries. Since there were several entries in the scratch all events division, I did not feel winning State Scratch All Events was worth double what it would be winning say the CMA Memorial Shootout. I feel as though it is a very difficult title to win, so I decided to give it similar weight as the NDBowling.com Majors. For future years, 100 entries will be the basis for the State Open Tournament, and the top 40 will earn points.
