The summer of 2015 has been used to upgrade NDBowlTV from a one camera and a very simple operation to a much more complex and entertaining bowling network. The High Plains Bowling Network has upgraded to a much more enjoyable experience for bowlers and fans of bowling through the use of added cameras and on screen graphics. With that comes added equipment to haul around from site to site. Last season, the entire operation could fit into a simple traveling tote. This season, however, each show may require as many as three totes if not more. NDBowlTV has added two cameras, two tripods, several networking cables, as well as equipment for a third person in the booth for in-game and post-game interviews. The changes are exciting, but challenging as well.
As many of you know, NDBowling.com and NDBowlTV is currently a one man operation. It began back it October of 2012 as a simple idea that was intended to help connect bowlers to bowling centers via news, tournament dates, and results. Needless to say, it has gone far beyond that. NDBowling.com has become one of the more recognizable brands in the region and NDBowlTV has quickly become a fan favorite.
All of this has brought me (Daren Seney) to a crossroads in life. My passion is bowling and competing as well as providing the best news and information on NDBowling.com and NDBowlTV. These two interests conflict when it comes to covering and bowling the events around the state.
Last season, NDBowlTV covered several events including 3 of the 4 NDBowling.com Major Championships. With a rather simple set-up, bowling these events were easy choices for me. Give me a half hour and the entire set can be set up and ready to go. If I don’t bowl well, we can treat our fans to bonus coverage of match play which happened more often than the bowler in me would like. This season, however, is going to be much more challenging. The show set-up requires a bit more time than normal and if I were to bowl well enough to advance to day 2, a rather lengthy delay between match play and stepladder finals is possible and I do not want that.
This is where NDBowlTV would like to expand. I would like to find a reliable individual to help with show set-up and production with the possibility of helping me call the action in the booth. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of the game of bowling to go along with a passion for the sport. Ideally, this person would not be competing in events, but would enjoy attending the events and covering the action on NDBowlTV. NDBowlTV has a few shows each season where I do not bowl such as the 10 Game Marathon in Minot. Not bowling the event gives me ample time to set everything up and in a timely manner. The problem exists when it comes to the 3 NDBowling.com Major shows. In the past 3 years, only one bowler has bowled all 12 majors that have been held. While it may surprise you, that bowler is me. These tournaments are ones that I look forward to all season long and would hate to miss them, even for NDBowlTV.
Aside from my passion for the sport of bowling, having another person involved with the operation will also give me peace of mind. While I don’t foresee anything happening to me, I would like to know that NDBowling.com and NDBowlTV would be taken care of something were to happen. I was involved in a pretty bad car accident this summer and had something bad happened to me, it would have been the end of NDBowling.com and The High Plains Bowling Network and I don’t want that to be the case.
Would you like to be a part of NDBowlTV? Do know someone who would like to be involved? Let me know! (Seney1987@gmail.com)
