The 2019-2020 bowling season proved to be one for the ages. 3 players became first time NDBowling.com Major Champions, while some rather familiar faces took home titles as well.
In October, Matt Smallin won the inaugural NDBowlTV Masters in a thriller by throwing a double in the tenth to defeat Jamey Kragh. The win gave Smallin back to back titles following a victory at the Coors Light Fall Shootout in Williston the weekend before.
In November, Blake Wallstrum and Thomas Wolf held off a late charge by Matt Smallin and Daren Seney to claim their first NDBPA State Scratch Doubles Title at Paragon Bowl in Dickinson. Wolf averaged over 230 on Sunday to take home the singles portion of the event.
December brought the annual NDBPA State Scratch Team event where Team ND Storm tallied yet another victory, their 6th in the NDBowling.com Era (Since 2012). Barry Zimmerman paced the field en route to the victory on the singles side of the tournament.
As the calendar turned over to 2020, the NDBowling.com Major Championships provided all the drama you come to expect from the biggest tournaments in the region. Michael Makela broke through at the Manitoba Open by defeating Wade Scott to claim his first NDBowling.com Major Title. Josh Link took down the Shootout with a clutch tenth frame to defeat past champion Nick Heilman. At the KFYR, Blake Wallstrum denied Eric Parvey of the career grand slam and brought home his first NDBowling.com Major. Finally, Andy Mills redeemed himself in Moorhead and claimed the Glen Hains Memorial trophy in an instant classic vs Parvey on NDBowlTV.
While Parvey didn’t come away with an NDBowling.com Major Title in 2019-2020, he did use an extremely consistent season in the Majors en route to his second NDBowling.com Player of the Year Honor. Parvey finished 7th in Manitoba, 3rd at the Shootout, 2nd at the KFYR, and 2nd at the NDBowling.com Classic. Despite Parvey’s near perfect resume in the Majors, the NDBowling.comPlayer of the Year award was not determined until the finals of the NDBowling.com Classic. 2019-2020 provided the closest player of the year race in the 5 year history of the award with 5 players having an opportunity to win heading into the final day of competition.
While the season was cut short for many by the pandemic, the 2019-2020 season still provided great levels of excitement. Shout out to all of the winners last season and to the NDBowling.com Player of the Year, Eric Parvey!
