The annual NDBPA State Scratch Team tournament was held this past weekend at North Hill Bowl in Minot. Having last hosted State Team in 2021, the Magic City welcomed 20 teams from across the high plains this season. The format was simple. Teams would bowl 6 games each day with the high pin total taking home the title and $4000 top prize on Sunday afternoon.
The opening block was held on a 43-foot pattern with 28.75 mls and a ratio of 2.84-1. While the pattern looked fairly playable on paper, only 3 teams were able to shoot plus for the 6 games. Team NHB (Ryan Krabbenhoft, Eric Nelson, Wade Scott, Mark Woznicki) turned in an impressive 5120 score with all 4 players shooting 50 over or better to give them a 181 pin lead after day 1.
On Sunday, all bowlers returned for the final 6-game block on a 44-foot pattern with a bit more oil than day 1. The block started out pretty slow with only 2 teams shooting plus game 1. Tournament leaders, Team NHB, got out to a decent start shooting 58 over the first 4 games to maintain the lead.
The lead, however, would change hands in game 5 after Team NHB/Wolfy’s Pro Shop (Josh Kragh, Jamey Kragh, Blake Wallstrum, Thomas Wolf) turned in their best game of the weekend firing off a 939. NHB/Wolfy’s Pro Shop shot 2734 (911 ave) for games 3,4,5 and would ultimately hold on to the lead to take home their first NDBPA State Scratch Team title. The squad turned in a block of 5096 to finish as the only team to eclipse the 10000 pin total.

3-time defending team champions, Team ND Storm (Travis Hersrud, Eric Kempel, Randy Peterson, Tayler Wallstrum), turned in the highest 6 game block of the tournament on Sunday by shooting 5229, but would ultimately end up 58 pins shy of another title. Team NHB would go on to finish in 3rd just 85 pins back.

Individually, Travis Hersrud lead the field going 283 over (223.58 average) for the 12 games to win the singles option.
