The 39th annual KFYR TV Bowling Classic was held this past weekend at Midway Lanes in Mandan.
The action started on Saturday with over 120 bowlers in the field. The qualifying round featured 8 games with the top 30 advancing to match play on Sunday. Early on, the scoring pace seemed fairly steady on the custom 42 foot pattern. Players were able to play a variety of angles but the volume of the pattern eventually started to slow the pace as the oil started moving downlane.
Leading the qualifying round was 2014 champion, Ryan Sandvick. Sandvick posted an 8-game total of 1933 which was more than 100 pins clear of everyone else. Sandvick recieved a TV as the qualifying leader later that evening at the banquet where a meal was provided to all entrants and the top 30 players were announced. The cut to the top 30 was Cairo Scott at 1577.
NDBowling.com once again gave away a Storm ball to a random non-casher at the event. Missy Price was selected and will receive a Storm ball of choice thanks to our partnership with Storm.

On Sunday, the top 30 bowlers returned to Midway Lanes for Match Play. Players were divided into 3 groups of 10 for round robin matches followed by a position round. Top 5 after position round would advance to the KFYR-TV finals.
The Match Play round was dominated early on by urethane. Players both on the left and right sides found a good look near the outside part of the lane and never looked back. Leading the way on Sunday was 2020 champion, Blake Wallstrum. Wallstrum claimed the top spot on the KFYR TV show with a rather consistent day going 8-2 in match play. Wallstrum would lead a talented group into the stepladder finals that included 3 past champions and a Hall of Famer.
Final 5: Blake Wallstrum, Josh Kennedy, Ryan Sandvick, Randy Peterson & Scott Endersbe.
KFYR TV Finals:
Peterson def. Endersbe 222-212
Sandvick def. Peterson 194-170
Kennedy def. Sandvick 258-201
Kennedy def. Wallstrum 223-217

Josh Kennedy took down the top 2 lefties in the stepladder finals to claim his first NDBowling.com Major Title. Kennedy, who threw urethane for the entire match play round, went to reactive in the stepladder finals en route to victory and the $2,500 top prize. Great bowling, Josh!
Big thank you to Bryan Goehring and the entire staff at Midway Lanes for hosting the event for the 39th consecutive season.
